Monkey is ranked at the 9th position of the 12 zodiac animals. Many feng shui experts in every country had put forth predictions and well wishes for 2016.

Irrespective of the 5 big elemental monkeys - metal, wood, water, fire and earth elements. There are some amusing current affairs and metaphysical meanings of the monkey, which in turn also give rise to many predictions formed by the feng shui community worldwide. Below is Feng Shui Monkeys mini outlook.

1) Across the socio-political, medical, spiritual, commercial realms. We can expect to see many hero-type figures in 2016. Jumping in to save "something" and "someone" at the 11th hour. To revolt and to change some fundamental beliefs. The monkey is a god in many ASEAN cultures. Especially for the Chinese and Indians, the Monkey belongs to the hero type.

For the Chinese, the most famous spokesperson is none other than the Monkey God 齐天大圣 - Sun Wu Kong (孙悟空). However in comparison to Captain America, our Chinese Monkey Hero can be said to be more like an anti-hero.

Sun Wu Kong will only respond to pain (the restraining headband). He likes to kill insects (the demons in the classics) despite serving under his master, a compassionate Buddhist monk who rather be eaten by the demons instead of killing them. However our anti-hero had prevailed and come to symbolize positive traits e.g. agility, intelligence and playful naughtiness valued by the Chinese.

The Hindu Monkey God, Hanuman is the embodiment of bravery, responsibility and loyalty. The Hanuman is also very powerful and bestowed with abilities to control the wind and thunder.

As for the Japanese, the three wise monkeys:

Speak No Evil (Iwazaru 言わざる)

Hear No Evil (Kikazaru 聞かざる)

See No Evil (Mizaru 見ざる)

Together they embody the proverbial principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". Symbolize the characteristics of good mind, speech and action. Sometimes the fourth monkey - "Do no evil" will join the team, pictured as folding its arms or covering its genitals (or in the naughty picture below, behind)

The 4th Monkey (Kate Marion)

2) Birth rates are set to increase marginally in many countries from 2016, good start for ASEAN countries who embraces the Monkey as a symbol of good meanings.

Good old China has finally come around and reversed the infamous "one-child" policy, many analysts are confident about the imminent baby boom. In baby shortage Singapore, our politicians had finally nodded at the Singaporeans with more babies born in 2015 - our country golden jubilee year. Though one can wonder if this is a one-time fluke or a herd mentality in the year of the sheep? :)

3) Internationally, most baby associated products will be flying off the shelves in 2016. Online sales portals will have more logistic delays.

Of course we are all in awe of the Chinese's consumer spending power. Hong Kong Customs officers are particularly sticky about milk formulas. In the Monkey, international travel industry and baby associated products will likely to be at good positions to reap the profits.

In the study of Bazi, the 12 zodiac animals are also classified in 3 main different clubs, each with a different hobby. Example:

Monkey, Tiger, Snake, Pig - The Travel Club.

Rooster, Horse, Rat, Rabbit - The Courtship Club.

Dragon, Dog, Ox, Goat - The Storage Club.

As monkey is part of the travel club. We will be seeing increased traffic in all channels, by air, shipping, road etc. However you may see more delays in logistics for important commercial franchise e.g. Taobao, Amazon etc.  So if you need something urgently, order early online and choose to get it from a physical shop instead.

4) More aggression, traffic incidents on the road and daily activities.

The travel club animals are not always so amicable. In Monkey timings e.g. years, months, days and hours, I had experienced many instances of  reckless driving, errant jaywalkers on the road and even bizzare driving against incoming traffic.

It is also likely that during "the golden hours", your irritating colleagues, micro-manager bosses or super manga boyfriends and girlfriends will choose these timings (especially true, when you are rushing a proposal for the clients) to call, email, text you about something trivial causing distractions and anger.

Also in crowded places e.g. shopping centres, restaurants etc,  humans seemed to be much more agitated, impatient or simply just blur like sotong. Getting their orders wrong and doing goods exchange will be a common sight.

Especially these humans, if you are born in the year of Tiger, Monkey, Snake & Pig. These are the "golden hours" or more risky periods and you must try to stay more aware and awake. To avoid the common dreaded "stupid mistakes".

Hourly:

  • Tiger Hour 03:00 to 05:00
  • Snake Hour 09:00 to 11:00
  • Monkey Hour 15:00 t0 17:00
  • Pig Hour 21:00 to 23:00
Monthly: 7th Aug - 7th Sept

5) Solar Flaring. Fire hazards. Explosions. More diseases, mostly air-born, affecting skin, lungs, rapid disease transmission affecting Central Nervous System, the most important person in the family (can be father or mother - depending on who wears the pants or family breadwinner).

Unfortunately, the 2016 annual flying star chart is flying in such a way where one of the hated "sickness star" had flew into the centre.

The centre is shared by everything and everyone in the world in no particular preference so to say. So the energy of the sickness is going to be spread out across the world, even to the most unlikely places or the most healthy person. Kinda bizarre.

In Feng Shui, you can do some remedies.

- At the North-East corner of the house, put a pot of plants to help "absorb" the bad qi circulating there.

- Locate the centre-point of your house, place 6 metal coins - 六帝钱 to help "cure" the sickness star 2.

Also practically in Singapore, it is good to purchase more N-95s and ensure the air quality in the house with air purifiers. Take more vitamin C to boost your immunity.

The 2016 parting shot: When you are in the middle of things, take time to consider. At the midway point, your decisions will make or break success.
