2016 is a year of many diseases, as agreed by many Feng Shui masters and as forewarned point 5 of in my blogpost here.

This prediction is based on the time & space theory of Xuan Kong Flying stars school. After the 立春 every year, 9 types of energies will get reshuffled and distributed to 8 directions + 1 centre position (let’s call it the King position) of the planet earth (Feng Shui is invented by the Chinese Scholars based on their very long time observation of nature on Earth), not sure if this theory can apply in Venus or Mars.

In 2016, the untimely and unlucky 2 black sickness star had “flown” into the centre.

Sickness star in the “King” palace will usually bring about virulent and infectious diseases. So when sickness star became “King” as it dominates and affects just about everyone. Fortunately, this year so far, the fast-spreading diseases via droplets transmission e.g. SARS and Avian Flu had not reared its ugly head.

However since the beginning of 立春, we seemed to notice more key words e.g. Zika virus, dengue fever and strokes. All have something to do with transmission in blood, blood clots, blood from mother to child etc. In Singapore, incidentally as of today, already 2 key members of our Singapore Cabinet ministers (both past & present) had been inflicted by stroke.

One of them is dramatic, as you can read here and also my previous blogpost on Minister Heng Swee Kiat. While this morning, our much-loved former President Nathan of Singapore (1999-2011) had a stroke while he is at home and now being treated in SGH intensive care unit. More people had been talking about stroke than politics in 2016 so far!

We will be talking about Dengue today & some interesting natural remedies.

I know it so well as it had occurred in my own backyard.

My parents are quite healthy for their age but their residence happened to be in a dengue cluster zone. So 2 months ago, my mother got “kissed” by the damn mozzie, diagnosed to be positive for dengue fever and was hospitalised for a week due to dangerously low platelets count. She has since recovered.

Then just last Friday, my father was also “chosen” by the affection of damn mozzie and he also kena dengue fever!

Super long wait but great medical staff!

So now, not only I know a thing or two with dengue fever, I also know the Singapore General Hospital very well, having visited their ER twice in 3 months now.

In my battle with dengue, I had bought 3 UV light mozzie repellant, bottles of DEET and anti-mozzie stickers. I even bought a overnight lounge chair with perfect dimensions just for the occasion; to lie down upon, in solidarity with next to the mother who was not allowed to get out of bed in the hospital for a week!

Dengue fever has no cure and no vaccines till date. As such, the recovery from this annoying disease is largely based on the integrity of the patient’s own immunity system, lots of rehydration, bottles of IV drips, paracetamol and around the clock nonsensical chatter, to keep the spirits of the patient up.

Precisely because convention medicine has been rather useless, many of my relatives started to come to us with various alternative remedies. Here are some of my favorites:

  1. Frog legs with bitter gourd soup - the more bitter the more potent
  2. Guava with red flesh (have you even seen guava with pink flesh?)
  3. Bitter gourd juice (what’s the bitter gourd? i do wonder)
  4. Papaya leaves juice (my first thought being, surely the all papaya trees are bald by now)

I watch with wonderment as my mother tried out all the various remedies, courtesy of her very caring siblings, my aunties. However despite that, my mother platelets dropped steadily by 1/3 almost everyday till the last 2 days when she recovered enough to be discharged!

The normal range for platelets was 150K and above. At her lowest, her platelet count was merely 11k. :(

Damn mozzie. So tiny yet so annoying.

Watch very cute youtube video on Dengue fever here

For some strange reason, the only thing i did not get my mother to try out was Papaya leaves juice, because I do not know where are the trees being planted in Singapore and also worried about the P450 cytochrome drug interactions. The rest of stuff were ok, i was not worried because its all normal food that are ingested by humans every day.

Cutting the long story short, when my lovely father was diagnosed I had decided to try out Papaya leaves because it was the most common remedy which was consistently mentioned by everyone.

This time immediately on diagnosis day, I found the paw paw papaya leaves capsules online and read up on its potency in protecting platelet levels, post-chemotherapy. Ok the science sounded legitimate and no harm trying.

I bought 2 bottles from vitakidz in Paragon. It is the only pharmacy in Singapore who is savvy enough to bring this in.

I coaxed my old man to take it every day.

Next thing you know … yes you guess it. That paw paw papaya leaves works! I am so amazed by how fast, easy and good this natural therapy was! Thanks to Universe, my father did not need to be hospitalised and platelets level hovered above the 100K range the whole time! Recovered in a week and he was happily talking about having beef steaks for dinner this morning!

Curious curious me, so i decided to do a metaphysical analysis of the Papaya leaves:

Sharp, pointy and looks like triangles - Fire element. Papaya is a plant, green colour - Wood element. Wood gives birth to Fire. Fire relates to blood, heart and eyes.

Platelet count in blood important in tracking dengue fever process. From a metaphysical point of view, papaya leaves can give a boost for healthy blood then. Therefore it does seem metaphysical sense that this is a right natural remedy for dengue fever.

Of course there are other pointy leaves, but papaya leaves is the most commonly suggested alternative medicine for dengue hence no point analysing all the leaves under the sky.

Whatever the case, I guess i will be keeping a bottle handy in my fridge for now! For you all who stumbled upon this page, please consult the doctors before taking any natural remedies. In fact, I believe that taking only natural remedies for critical diseases is not a good treatment management strategy.

Saying this from my humble degree in Biomedical science, then I worked in swiss giant pharma company for many years and then i studied Feng Shui. So fairly speaking, I am on the both sides of medical science and natural therapies.

Please take care if you are staying in dengue clusters in Singapore. Here is the latest update.
