阳宅三要 - 3 Essentials of A Yang Residence

The humans are visual reliant species. In fact at least 65% of the population are touted to be visual learners. In other words, traditional class room lectures by teachers will only benefit 35% of the population, while the rest of the visual species will not pay attention much throughout their schooling days.

As such, you can say that the humans also have amazing abilities to pick out odd objects in a normal environment.

Heard of the Flight or Fight response? Scientists believe that we, the modern humans developed this response as early as prehistoric times, when the prehistoric humans are hypersensitive to danger in the environment e.g. a ferocious animals about to eat them or sudden noises. Despite the obvious fact that modern humans are no longer living in such harsh environments.

Therefore when it comes to Fengshui, its simple.

Good Fengshui are places with beautiful aesthetics and pleasing to to our eyes. In Fengshui, we named many Sha Qi (killing energies) according to weapons e.g. poison arrow sha, sickle knife sha, wall blade Sha, pierce-the-heart sha etc.

Therefore during house hunting, pay extra attention especially in the 3 key areas according to the principles of 3 essentials of Yang Residence.

Trust the sensory stimulation when you first entered a place. Also visually take note of sharp corners, beams, protruding objects etc. Even unexplainable odors can arise in hypersensitive people due to the sha qi. All will inevitably “stress” the house Fengshui & its occupants

As a layman, can you visually inspect & "feel" the Fengshui of a new house? Absolutely.

Follow this layman guide and check for the following

Main Door:

Structural issues which Fengshui cannot fix properly unless the structure is removed.

  • Is there “pressure” on the main door caused by a wall blade or heavy weight from any visible beam above?
  • Is the main door located at the end of a long corridor with nothing in between?
  • Is there a huge beam overhanding or penetrating the main door from outside to inside the house?
  • Is the main door located directly in front of a staircase?

Master Bedroom:

Master Bedroom is your inner-sanctuary, engage your feelings & senses with the following guidelines.

  • Does the master bedroom feels “exposed” and feels unstable?
  • Is the natural light in master bedroom brighter than the living room?
  • Is the master bedroom exposed to noise or unexplainable smells?
  • Is there an obvious beam over the position of your bed placement?
  • If there is an en-suite toilet, can you detect some unexplainable smells floating into your master bedroom?

Trust your instincts, master bedroom is a key essential of a Yang residence. When the energy of a space is situated with bad stars, it can attract negative materialisation e.g. scents, sensitivity to lighting & contrast, like warning bells going off.

Kitchen (represents lady's health in the house):

  • Open kitchens are a relatively new concept. In Fengshui, we prefer kitchens to be demarcated clearly from the rest of the house with a partition or a door.
  • Good fengshui kitchen design do not agree with the stove directly facing a water source e.g. Tap or washing machine.
  • A wall behind the stove is beneficial for the lady's family status in the house.
  • Is there an overhead beam directly on top of the stove? Watch out for this and budget for renovation which includes the covering up of this beam to avoid pressure on the lady's eyes & heart.

Fengshui Elements & Numbers

A common question on people's mind when it comes to house hunting.

How do they know which house has the best Fengshui?

Most Fengshui practitioners will also have a good understanding of Bazi chart reading.

In a comprehensive Fengshui audit, the birthdays of all occupants will also need to be taken into account for their favourable, helpful elements as well as unfavourable elements.

In urban Singapore where most Yang Residences are high rise buildings, house hunting requires many viewings in many neighbourhoods with a variety units at different levels.

Units at higher floors are usually worth a premium over lower floors, if you find yourself spoilt for choice between a few units in different neighbourhood. Hopefully this guide can help you further narrow down the list and locate your dream home, with or without professional Fengshui services.
